List of foods NOT give to your parrots (dangerous & toxic food list)

Some foods we shouldn’t give to our birds because they’re unhealthy and promote health problems like obesity and fatty liver.

Other foods that humans often enjoy can be downright dangerous to parrots. With such a big variety of healthy and safe foods available to us to feed our parrots, there’s NO excuse or reason to allow your birds to consume dangerous or toxic food items.

That means preventing accidental access to any food dangers (keep those chocolates well out of reach!).

  • Chocolate
  • Avocado
  • Onion
  • Meats
  • Eggs
  • Any junk and processed foods (crisps, muesli bars, candy, instant noodles, to name a few)
  • Dairy products (cheese, milk, dairy yoghurt)
  • White refined grains (white rice, bread, pasta, tortillas, couscous etc)

Not forgetting the liquids – birds should only be offered fresh, clean water and nothing else to drink (one exception being short term use of chamomile tea for specific reasons, after discussion with your avian vet).

Never provide parrots with:

  • Alcohol
  • Soda drinks, fruit juice, or any sugary or processed beverages
  • Coffee or other caffeine drinks
